Orion 54

The assignment was to design a robust and fast family cruising yacht, with a spacious deck saloon and suitable for sailing in cold regions. The result is the Orion 54. We have chosen aluminum, partly for its robust looks like this aluminum is unpainted and partly because aluminum is an extremely solid and lightweight construction material. The length of 54ft is the result of a spacious cockpit, a deck saloon with a comfortable U-shaped settee, a spacious owner’s cabin with a separate shower / toilet, two guest cabins, a spacious U-shaped galley and a spacious lounge.
In order to anchor close to the shore, to sail a nice river, or to allow the mooring in a nice harbor, we have choosen for a retractable keel. Because of the keel is vertically retractable, it’s possible to sail with various drafts, wherein said steering characteristics remain the same.
Exterior

The cockpit has two long seats, with behind two steering positions. The seats have a good backrest and sit comfortably. The entire cockpit is kept as low as possible, to give the crew in heavy seas security. For that reason, there is also created sufficient space behind the helm. The mainsheet is attached to the deck saloon, so there is no maintrack in the cockpit. A fixed cockpit table provides guidance while sailing and offers a cozy eatery on the anchor or in port.
Interior

The deck saloon to starboard has a large U-shaped settee to port and a card table. The galley is optically connected to the deck saloon and makes the entire room spacious and cozy. The retractable keel is concealed under the table, so the keel box is not visible in the interior.
