Introduction film

Transport RSC1900

At the end of September, the hull of the RSC1900 was transported by road from Antwerp to a location in the Netherlands. The aluminum hull was built in a boatyard in the port of Antwerp. In recent months, the hull has been painted and the installations have started. The interior is completely prefab ready and will be built in at the new Dutch location. Belgian television reported the transport.

Orion Enksail 49

In Makkum, hard work is being done on the construction of the Orion Enksail 49. The cockpit and superstructure are largely ready and hard work is being done on the hull, which is already assembled in large parts. The Canadian client made a nice reproduction of the preliminary phase. Look at the Youtube film.

June 2022

It has been a long time ago, since news has been posted on this ‘News’ page. It isn’t because there was no news, but simply too much work to also pay attention to the website. In the autumn of 2021 I already wrote about the Sine Metu 41, whose hull is now ready and transported to Belgium. In China, meanwhile, the molds for the TEN2 were being built, which is now finally almost ready. In the fall of 2021, we were also commissioned to adapt the RSC1900, where the yard started the building process  in February 2022. For an adapted interior, the construction was adapted and a new retractable keel was drawn. Simultaneously with the RSC1900, we were commissioned to adapt the Orion 49, which is being built at ‘De Gebroeders van Enkhuizen’ in Makkum. This sailing yacht also got a new keel with a retractable daggerboard and we moved a new hybrid engine under the deckhouse.

In addition to all this work, the work at Saffier Yachts continued. I started working at this yard in October 2021 and. In addition to design new models, I will also be involved in the production of the Saffiers. I will report more about this in a while.

TEN2-assembly

In Dalian / China, hard work is underway on the TEN2. Due to large orders for the other DC types, the development of the building moulds was halted for some time, but now all moulds for the interior parts are ready and the first interior parts have also been produced. Hull, bulkheads and interior parts are assembled and now the technical part begins, such as the electrics, engine installation, fuel tank, and the water ballast system. Because China is still closed due to Covid, we also have to check the building process with only the photos, but these photos look promising.

Orion Enksail 49

The construction of the Orion Enksail 49 has started at ‘De Gebroeders van Enkhuizen’. The customers are well-known Canadian vloggers and you can follow the latest developments in design choices, hardware choices, construction, etc. on their facebook page. Because we had so many small adjustments in terms of interior, installation and the keel, we developed a completely new cutting package.

Saffier Se33 / European Boat of the Year 2022

In the ‘Special Yachts’ category, the Saffier Se33 has been voted as ‘European Yacht of the Year 2022’. 24 boats were nominated in 5 categories and 5 boats were nominated in the ‘Special Yachts’ category. The awards have grown to include 12 judges from sailing magazines across Europe, each leading voices on boat testing in their respective countries. The Netherlands was represented by Marinus van Sijdenborgh de Jong of sailing magazine ‘Zeilen’. The yachts are all tested during trials which took place in Barcelona last Autumn. The result is the largest, most influential and widely respected boatbuilding prize worldwide.
Normally the awards would be presented at a special event during the opening evening of the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January. This year it was a virtual presentation on Friday 21 Januari 2022.

The jury report was full of praise: Saffier is another yard which will not rest on its laurels and keeps improving and improving. Just when you think it’s found the perfect daysailer formula, it adds more and more refinement, from the design to the first class finish throughout. The SE33 is an absolute joy to sail (and can provide a thrilling ride too), while the Dutch yard’s incredible sales figures bear witness to its looks and functionality. It’s really saying something when a yard can win the same prize in back to back years for a similar product. Chairman of the jury, Jochen Rieker from Yacht explains: “Following-up from the previous year winner, SE 27, the 33 not only follows a proven concept. She actually beats the high standards the yard has established. “In other words: She is not just bigger but that extra little better in any respect that there simply was no other choice than awarding the Dutch design again. And rightly so: stunning performance, great feel, loads of stability, beautiful lines and an interior that wants you stay longer than just for a day or so. Simply, absolutely, crazy wow!”

The current Saffier’s are developed by Dean and Dennis Hennevanger and Satellite Yacht Design. It is fantastic and a great honor when this work results in such a prestigious award.

And the winners are!
