The boatyard Alubouw in Franeker is finishing the second aluminium casco of the Orion 49/II. The hull, keel and sailplan are the same as the first Orion. Update, June 2016

At the moment we’re working on the RSC1900 (design 172). The RSC1900 is a 19.00 meter aluminium sailing yacht. The client came with the concept and made the interior design. We’re doing the naval architecture and the whole construction. The RSC1900 is designed for the MED and has a furling mast, a captive winch for the mainsheet, a selftacking jib and  a dinghy storage. This summer the client will choose the boatyard, which is going to build this yacht.

For a dutch boatyard we’re designing a new polyester 37ft daysailer (design 175). The first drawings are ready and next month the yard will start to build it. As soon as the yard will publish the pictures, we will show you this spectacular concept.

Orion 49 / Cruiser (design 169) on transport

At the end of May, the hull of the Orion 49 / Cruiser was transported to the carpentry shop. Alubouw Franeker is now working on the second hull, which will be ready mid July.

Charlotte for sale

In 2010, the Charlotte was launched and since then the yacht sailed hundreds of miles in Europe. The yacht is built in composite by Pijnen Jachtbouw in Tholen and is a nice compromise between classic lines and modern structure and lines beneath the waterline. Most of the miles were sailed solo and the Charlotte is very easy to handle.

The owner asks 140.000 euro for the 41ft Charlotte.

The Charlotte 41 has a classic appearance, but is furthermore totally high-tech. It is a safe, comfortable and fast sailing yacht, designed by Satellite Yacht Design. The hull and rigging are calculated and designed with the most modern stability and prediction programs. The hull of the Charlotte 41 exists of a standard sandwich construction with a ‘core cell’ foam core and a glass/epoxy laminate on the inside and outside.

Update, April 2016

A long time we didn’t post any news on the website. And there was so much news, that we didn’t have time to make some articles. In the first months of 2016 we finished the designs of the two orion’s, which are built in Franeker. We also started the design of a 19 meter aluminium sailing yacht and also finished the design of a 6.20 m composite daysailer for the Chineese lakes. At least we have to design a composite 36ft and 38ft sailing yacht for a dutch client.

Project 169-Orion49 / The first aluminium casco is almost fininshed. At the moment the daggerboard and rudders are placed and the yard is finishing the last details in the hull and deck.

Project 170-DF20 / In China are the moulds for a 20ft daysailer almost finished. This summer the prototype will be launched.

Project 173-Orion 49 / The hull of the second Orion will be built at the moment. The differences between the Orion’s are the transom, cockpit, deck, deckhouse and interior. Hull, keel, rudders and rigging are the same for the two boats.

Project 172-RS1900 / We’re designing a 19.00m aluminium sailing yacht for a dutch client. The client delivered the sketches of the exterior in a 2d Rhino-file and designed the interior in 3d himself. We designed and calculated the exterior, construction, keel, rudder and rigging.

Project 175 and 176 / At the moment we’re making the first sketches for the 36ft and 38ft composite daysailers.

DC20 / Defender

Design Philosophie DC20

For the chinese lakes, we designed a 6.20m sailing boat, named DF20/Defender. The main purpose of the DC20 / Defender is for sailing lessons / sailboat rentals and group packages in the Chinese lakes. In addition, with an upgrade of the hardware, the rigging and possibly the keel, the boat will be suitable as a contest boat for three persons.

For sailing lessons and sailboat rental, it will be important that the rig is simple and inexpensive and that five people can sit on the windward side on the deck. For a good seat, the cockpit deck is kept as low as possible. The transom is closed because the cockpit floor is kept as low as possible. Drains have been made to discharge water. The cockpit floor will be kept as low as possible, so the crew can sit on benches in the boat. In the cruising version two benches are included. The DC20 / defender is equipped with air lockers under the cockpit floor and in the side, so that the deck will be at least 150mm above the water level.

For rentals there is a  rubber rubbing strake mounted on the side hull.

There is a cruising and a racing version developed and the difference is in the rigging and the hardware. The cruising version gets a triangular mainsail and a small jib and doesn’t have a traveler for the mainsheet. The racing version gets a bigger mainsail and a maximum jib. In order to keep the price is low, the jib with hanks mounted on the forestay. The possibility for a gennaker, makes it possible for learning this discipline. For racing, the maximum crew weight set at 200kg and there is an opportunity to sail with a trapeze. On the cockpit floor were made in both the touring and racing version hiking straps.

The keel is has a maximum draft of 0.85 meters, which is suitable for the Chinese lakes.

Between the air lockers and the deck are pockets where the personal belongings of the crew can be stowed. Under the lowered rear deck is an ample storage space created, which can be closed watertight.

Hull and deck are constructed in polyester. In the hull will be a PVC foam core, and the deck is reinforced with a Coremat. The keel is constructed of cast iron.

Open Day K&M Yachtbuilders in Makkum, April 20th 2015

On April 25th 2015, K&M Yachtbuilders in Makkum organize an open day. During the day you can visit several yachts built by K&M and there are two presentations at 12.00 and 14.00hr. Jeremy Wyatt of The World Cruising Club will give a presentation about the beauty of sailing in Scotland, as part of the Malt Cruise, which they organise in addition to more famous events such as the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC). Wouter Verbraak, sailor and Navigator in the Volvo Ocean Race will speak about his experiences on board, team spirit, his plans for the future and how he became a professional sailor.

Unfortunately the Axonite 77 is in Italy and the Icon 48 is racing in the south of the Netherlands, so they can’t be visited during the open day. But the open day will give you a good view of the craftsmanship of this yard and you can get information about the Axonite yachts and the Icon.
