After building the prototype and requesting the required licenses, the production from the DC20 has started . The concept has been set up for the Chinese lakes for recreational use, sailing lessons and competitions. The boat will be built in polyester in Dalian. The yard will move soon to a new location.
For a planned single-handed race in China with 6 boats we have made a proposal for a suitable boat for that. We have adapted the existing TEN with water ballast, a type of sprayhood, an autopilot, a central navigation unit and a rack for a liferaft, including a radar. All sheetsts, halyards and trimming lines were already centrally located around the cabin entree and only the backstay cleats are moved forward.
In Dalian (China) the DC20 (design 171) is launched and made the first trials. The boat is designed for sailing schools and rental especially on the lakes. There are plenty seats, the boat is safe and easy to sail. With an upgrade, such as a retractable gennakerboom, a maintrack and a trapeze, the boat can be used for racing. From 17 to 25 March, the Hainan-regatta is sailed near and round the Chinese island. The races are part inshore and part offshore. The offshore race is a race around the island with a stopover in Sanya. Three Ten’s (design 147) were racing, and team Yomovo (San Ya You Mu Hu) and team Sunrise (SMW) both finished second in their class IRC3 and IRC5. http://www.yacht-design.nl/designs/ten/

During the last ChinaCup ‘Team Yomovo’ won the ChinaCup2016 in the IRC-C division. The first race from Hong Kong to Shenzhen was canceled because there was no wind and also the short upwind/downwind races on the Friday were canceled. On Saturday, three races were sailed in 20kts wind and on Sunday two races in 10kts wind. Team Yomovo, skippered by Martin Hingst scored three 1st places and two 2nd places. Team Yomovo is sailing in TEN (design 147).
The boatyard Alubouw in Franeker has finished the second aluminium casco of the Orion 49. The hull, keel and sailplan are the same as the first Orion 49 / Cruiser (design 169). The deck, cabin, deckhouse, cockpit, transom and interior are different form the 1st Orion 49.
In Franeker started Alubouw Fryslan (http://www.alubouwfryslan.nl/) the construction of the Orion 49. In a few weeks the construction of the second Orion 49 will also start. The second orion is different form the first boat. The hull, the rig and the keel are similar, but the interior and the deck are different.
Nadine Göhring is a 24 years old student and she’s currently studying Industrial Design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim. She’s doing her traineeship at Satellite Yacht design because she wants to learn the whole process of a sailboat designer.
Besides she makes nice renderings and sketches for a few projects, she is making a new design for a 28-30ft sailing yacht. The goal is not to design a conservative boat, but a modern design with different dynamic lines and without the ballast of a yacht designer.
Her goal is to provide sailers supreme comfort with sufficient daylight in a cozy atmosphere whether inside or outside. I want to design a contrast to the previously existing sailboats. Most seats offer not enough comfort and the space inside appears too dark because of insufficient light.
Her first lines were spectacular and we will follow her process.
This week, we completed the contracts for the design and building of two aluminum Orion 49’s. The hull construction will take place at Alubouw Fryslan in Franeker. The Orion 49 is a smaller version of the Orion 54, with the same layout and appearance. The second Orion 49 will have a different deck, another cockpit and another interior.
